How Aluminum Stage Trusses Are Welded and Inspected

Welding is a critical stage in aluminum truss production because the main chords, diagonal braces and end connections must form one accurately aligned component. The welding method and parameters should match the alloy, tube thickness, joint design and production procedure.

Material and Joint Preparation

The material grade and tube dimensions are checked against the drawing. Cutting and joint preparation should create suitable fit-up without excessive gaps. Aluminum surfaces around the weld area must be kept clean because contamination can affect weld quality.

Fixture Alignment

Main chords, braces and connectors are positioned in a fixture before welding. The fixture helps control section dimensions, connector orientation and straightness. Tack welding is completed in a planned sequence so that alignment can be checked before final welding.

Qualified Aluminum Welding

TIG or MIG processes may be used depending on the product and approved procedure. Current, travel speed, shielding gas, filler material and heat input must be controlled for the specific joint. Experienced operators remain important even when automated equipment supports part of the process.

Cleaning and Inspection

After welding, the section is allowed to cool and is cleaned for inspection and finishing. Checks may include overall dimensions, straightness, connector alignment and visible weld condition. Any nonconforming section should be separated for review rather than sent directly to packing.
